Car Stereo Basics and Tips

When it comes to purchasing a car stereo system, the most significant issue is what you want your system to be capable of. Other main factors are your budget and what type of music you want to listen. If you particularly don't want to spend a large sum of money on an expensive stereo system, and you don't want a stereo system with all kinds of flashy animations, screen savers and other features that you really don't need. However, the car stereo should at least have some kind of LCD display to see the tracks text or numbers and equalizer. You should be looking for a CD deck or car stereo system with a minimum of 3-band equalizer so that you can easily adjust the bass, middle and treble levels to customize the sound to figure out the style of your music. This is my view only but I feel that a high-quality system should consist of a good head/main unit that either has a CD player and/or is connected to a good CD changer in the trunk. A good system sounds excellent when playing CDs, tapes and do not cut the music and break the flow of sound. Next I think part sets are prepared with fewer compromises than coaxial speakers so I advise to getting a good quality midrange tweeter set for the front. Head units of the car stereo system usually do not put out enough clean power of sound so you will need an amplifier to drive the component set in better way. In the rear of the car where you only require some "fill" for ambiance and creating god sound you can get away with low priced coaxials and set their sound level lower than the front coaxials to keep the sound phase in front of the car. An unassuming (50x4) 4 channel amplifier is a good selection here for powering the component set up front and the rear speakers. You could use a good 2 channel amp and run the front and back in parallel on the amp but it would harder to adjust the level between them. Midranges sound very good when they do not play bass so you will need a 2 way electronic intersect and utilize the high pass output to drive your 4 channel amplifier. I did not forget about bass, most people are happy with a single 10" woofer or a pair of 12"s. Use a proper enclosure and a big amplifier. Then throw in installation and wiring accessories such as fuses and distribution blocks. If you are a little anxious about highs, get coaxials in front as an alternative of the component set and power them off from the head unit and use some bass blockers on them. Car stereo basics should be known by the person before buying or upgrading the stereo system. By knowing the basic facts of a car stereo system you can easily make a good car stereo system for yourself according to your choice and budget.
